Lecithin is a fatty substance called phospholipid. The liver produces it if the diet is adequate. It is needed by every cell in the body and is a key building block of cell membranes: without it, they would harden! Lecitin also protects cells from oxidation and largely comprises the protective sheaths surrounding the brain. It comprises mostly of B vitamins, phosphoric acid, choline, omega 3 linolenic acid and inositol.

Though it is a fatty substance it is also a fat emulsifier. Hence it supports the circulatory system by keeping fat and cholesterol solvent and preventing it from attaching to the artery walls and clogging the cardiovascular system.

The choline supplied by lecitin prevents fat accumulation in the liver. Choline deficiencies in humans can produce liver abnormalities in just a few weeks, and prolonged deficiency of choline can produce severe liver damage. Choline is also utilized by virtually every cell for synthesis of various phospholopids, proteins, and the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine.

Research has shown that administration of choline or lecitin can raise plasma and brain choline and acetylcholine levels. This can help alleviate neurological motor disturbances and restore cognition and memory.

Lecitin will also support physical performance and endurance, relief arthritis, promote healthy hair and skin, and the improved fat metabolism might enhance weight loss.
